Anisaa Jean-Pierre – NJ STATE CONFERENCE OF THE NAACP ACT-SO STATE COMPETITION

My name is Anisaa Jean-Pierre and I attend S.T.E.M Academy in East Orange, New Jersey class of 2018. I currently take courses in computer science, programing and engineering. The courses that I excel in are english and history and I have a deep infatuation with literature, especially poetry. I am also involved in extracurricular activities in school such as The Pearl Club and The National History Day competition that I will be representing my school.

Last year, I entered into the NAACP ACT-SO competition for Poetry Performance and Poetry Written. I was victorious in regionals and was able to advance on to nationals. Unfortunately, I did not win nationals, but I made positive connections that would last a lifetime. After nationals, I was bestowed the NAACP W.E.B Dubois award for my poetry. I was also able to gain an internship with the East Orange former Mayor Lester E. Taylor. I am hoping to become a lawyer or politician. My desire to uplift, teach, and share knowledge of self and self empowerment was instilled in me since I was a toddler. This is why I am so determined to be a positive leader and role model in my community.
