ArtsEdSEL Intern: Margaret Blackstone

Hello Everyone!!

I am Margaret and I am Arts Ed NJ’s new Program Development Intern for the Fall of 2021. I am currently a senior at Lake Forest College double majoring in Music and Business with a minor in Music Education. After college, I hope to work in event planning and marketing for a non-profit, hopefully related to the arts.

My love for arts began at a very young age. I always loved putting on shows, songs, and little plays for my family. The performances often consisted of my siblings and favorite stuffed animals. As I grew older, I began to love music as well as acting. I started playing the piano, violin, and the french horn (my favorite).

Music and theater became my whole life all growing up. I was in as many productions and bands as possible. These performances also provided an incredible community, who all quickly became my best friends. As I grew up, I quickly realized that many people do not have the same privilege that I have to perform in various productions or play an instrument.

This is why I want to intern with Arts Ed NJ to work on advocacy, so that students can have equal opportunities in the arts.
